Mount Goshogadake

Mount Goshogadake (247 m), also called Hotogi-yama, rises on the border between Yukuhashi City and Miyako Town in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. Along its ridges run the earthen and stone walls of Gosho-ga-tani Kōgōishi, an ancient mountain fortress thought to have been built in the late 7th century and now a National Historic Site, with about three kilometres of defences preserved within a history park. The summit looks south to the Hikosan range, north to the Hirao karst plateau and east across the Seto Inland Sea; the peak is listed in the Fukuoka 'super-low mountains' and the Fukuoka prefectural climbing guide.
