Mount Gassan is a roughly 184 m peak in Tomita, Hirose-cho, Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture, famed as the site of Gassan-Toda Castle, the stronghold of the Sengoku-period Amago clan. The mountain holds a well-preserved castle complex of ridge-line bailey compounds curving around the Inashi River in a horseshoe; the Mōri, Kikkawa and Horio clans held the keep in turn after the Amago fell in 1566. The site is a National Historic Site, one of Japan's Top 100 Castles, and a component of the Japan Heritage designation, and is included in the Bunken Tozan Guide for Shimane Prefecture.
