Mount Asuwa

Mount Asuwa is a 116 m hill in central Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, where Emperor Keitai - founder of the city - is commemorated by a stone statue alongside numerous ancient burial mounds. Some 3,500 cherry trees colour the slopes in spring (listed in Japan's Top 100 Sakura Spots), and around 11,000 hydrangeas - the city flower - bloom in early summer. The summit park hosts the Natural History Museum, the Tachibana Akemi Memorial Literary Hall and an amusement zone, and the peak is included in the Hokuriku Hyakuzan compilation.
