Mountain lodge at about 2,493m at the new sixth station of the Fujinomiya route up Mount Fuji, in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. With more than eighty years of history, it is the closest hut to the Hoei crater, seven minutes away on foot. It stands only 10 to 15 minutes above the Fujinomiya fifth-station car park, right on the tree line, so it serves not only Fuji climbers but also walks up Hoeizan, tours of the Hoei crater and forest paths below the tree line. The ground floor is a tatami room for home-cooked meals and gatherings, while guests sleep upstairs on futon. The dining room and shop are open from 6:00 to 20:00 and welcome passing walkers as well as guests, serving the local speciality Fujinomiya yakisoba and draught beer. Anyone heading for the summit before breakfast can take a home-made bento instead. Seas of cloud, night views and moon-viewing are part of the appeal, as are views down to the ocean and the Izu peninsula. The Fujinomiya route starts at 2,400m and runs 4.3km to the summit, about five hours up and three hours down. While private cars are restricted, walkers park at Mizugatsuka (1,000 yen per car) and take a shuttle bus or taxi to the fifth station; climbing buses also run from Shizuoka, Shin-Fuji, Mishima and Fujinomiya stations.
