Unmanned shelter on the summit of Mt. Ogura (2,112m), at the northern edge of the Okuchichibu massif, in Kitaaiki Village, Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture. Mt. Ogura is one of Japan's two hundred famous mountains; seen from the foot, the rocks near its top resemble a human face, and it has long been spoken of as a mountain where the gods reside. One account traces its name to the mikura of takamikura, the imperial throne. Kitaaiki Village gives about three hours to the summit from the end of the forest road in from Shiraiwa, and about four hours from the forest road behind the Choja-no-Mori cottages; rhododendron thickets along the way are at their best from late May to mid-June. Nagano Prefecture's mountain hut portal lists the shelter as unmanned and open year-round, with the village office as the contact.
