八海山小屋

Small mountain hut at about 1,500m at the fifth station of the Kurosawa-guchi trail on the eastern flank of Mt. Ontake. It belongs to Mitake in Kiso Town, Nagano, and stands in the forest belt not far from the base station of the Ontake Ropeway. Kurosawa-guchi is one of the old pilgrimage routes of the Ontake faith, running on past Nakanoyu at the sixth station, Gyoba Sanso at the seventh and Nyonindo at the eighth to the summit at Kengamine; this hut is a staging point low on that line. It opens only for the summer climbing season, generally from mid-July to late August, and is closed the rest of the year, with different phone numbers in and out of season.
