From the West Tanzawa Visitor Center, this traverse climbs the Nishizawa valley with repeated stream crossings, passes Zenroku-no-tawa to the 1,293 m Azegamaru, and descends past the Azegamaru shelter, Otaki Pass and the Ikkenya shelter along the Otakizawa valley toward Otakibashi. The summit is enclosed by beech and maple without a view, but the route rewards with the gorge scenery of the Nishizawa, home to Hondana, one of Tanzawa's three great waterfalls, and quiet forest walking.
