This return follows a ridge trail from Okuwa, Nagano, to 1,867 m Mount Itose, which rises like a folding screen east of the Kiso River on the western side of the Central Alps. It passes Matsubara Yokote and Maruya no Toya, the site of an old bird lodge from which hunters netted wild birds, to the forested top. Nearby stands Noroshi Rock, a great granite boulder whose top looks out to Kiso-Komagatake, Utsugi, Ontake, Norikura and the Northern Alps.
