This return climbs 481.7 m Mount Kakuda in Nishikan Ward, Niigata, part of Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park, from the Gokatoge trailhead at about 200 m. It is the gentlest of the mountain's many trails, glimpsing Sado Island near a shelter and ending by boardwalk on the broad summit. In spring, snow-break flowers are followed by dogtooth violets and other wildflowers, and the Kannon hall looks over the Echigo Plain.
