From near the Futakuchi trailhead in Nagaoka, this loop climbs the Futakuchi Course past the Gonin spring and the Yachidaira meadow to Hakamadake (1,537 m), the highest peak of Mount Sumon, crosses Seiundake with its boardwalked marsh and rocky Odake, and descends the Hokkyure Course past the Kibita shelter. Wrapped in old-growth beech, it is one of Echigo's finest mountains, with views from Hakamadake over the Uonuma ranges and from Odake toward Hiuchigatake and Aizu-Komagatake.
