Starting at Oasahiko Shrine, the principal shrine of old Awa Province, this return hike follows the trailhead and a long stone-stepped approach through natural forest to Mount Oasa, Naruto's highest summit, and Mine Shrine at the top. The sacred mountain is affectionately known locally as Misen-san; near the summit stands a giant cedar designated as a city natural monument, while the mountain itself once served as a landmark for ships. The sustained, steep steps call for suitable hiking footwear and care on both the ascent and descent.
