From the trailhead near Akamatsuyama Forest Park in Agano, this return follows a ridge over a string of small summits, Shiroyama, Akamatsuyama, Kokuzosan, Maruyama-Kofuji and Yatagarayama, to the 559 m Mount Hoju at the southern end of the Gozu range. The path rolls up and down but has few difficult spots, and the summit with its stone Buddhas opens in every direction.
