From the Katsuhara trailhead at the former ski area, this return hike climbs a steep former piste and beech forest, passes Fukayanokashira, Shakunage-daira, and Naka-Arashimadake, reaches 1,523.5-metre Mount Arashima, and visits Mount Ko-Arashima on the way back. Known as Ono Fuji, this is Fukui's only peak among Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, with broad views toward Mount Hakusan and the Ono Basin. Beyond Shakunage-daira, the slippery, steep Mochigakabe section has successive chains and ladders and requires care in both directions.
