From Ishikiri Tsurugiya Shrine in Higashiosaka, beloved as the god of swellings and known for its hundred-times prayer, the route passes the Upper Shrine about 1 km east and Kohoji before climbing the steep Osaka face of the Ikoma range. Past Onitoriyama it crosses 642 m Mount Ikoma, topped by an amusement park and broadcast towers, and descends the gentler Nara side by the approach to Hozanji, the Ikoma Shoten temple refounded by Tankai in 1678, to Ikoma Station.
