Oeyama Ski Area Closed
Official name 大江山スキー場
Kyoto
Open 1953–2016
Oeyama Ski Area was a city-run hill on Mt. Oe in Miyazu, northern Kyoto Prefecture. It opened in 1953 and for decades was a local winter playground for the Tango region. Repeated poor snow, which the city puts down to a warming climate, led to its closure in 2016. The rest house, ticket booth and lift towers still stand on the grassy former slope, but they are badly decayed and the city forbids entry because they may collapse.
