Mt. Yura

Mt. Yura is a 640 m peak on the boundary of Maizuru and Miyazu Cities in Kyoto Prefecture, nicknamed "Tango Fuji" for its broadly spreading symmetrical cone. A twin-summit mountain (east and west peaks) within the Tango-Amanohashidate-Oeyama Quasi-National Park, it was once a Shugendō sacred mountain known as Kokūzō-ga-take during the Edo period, and a small Kokūzō-Bosatsu shrine still stands on the east summit. The standard route from the Kamiurushihara trailhead in Maizuru passes Niō Rock, Zazen Rock and Maoku Falls, with sweeping views over the Tango Peninsula, Mt. Aoba and Amanohashidate. Listed in Kansai 100 Mountains and Furusato Fuji 100.
