Mt. Yahazudake

A 266.6 m peak at the center of Himeshima Island and the highest point on the island, in Himeshima Village, Higashi-Kunisaki District, Oita Prefecture. Formed by volcanic activity around 90,000 years ago, its flanks and summit are mantled with Yahazudake lava and its twin-peaked silhouette earns it the nickname "Himeshima Fuji." A concrete observation deck at the summit gives sweeping views across the Kunisaki Peninsula, and the peak is a long-established navigation landmark in the Seto Inland Sea, included in the Oita Hyakuzan, Kunisaki Peninsula Yama Guide, and Japan's 100 Furusato Fuji lists.
