Ōtōzan is a 1,121.9 m peak straddling Tanabe City and Kozagawa Town in Wakayama Prefecture, the central summit of the southern Kii Mountains. Its twin-peaked summit (East Peak and Nishi-mine, Ni-no-Mori) and ridge harbour what is recognised as the southernmost natural beech forest on Honshū. The mountain is the headwater of three major river systems—the Kumano, Kozagawa and Hiki—and conservation fencing has been installed since 1998 to recover forest damaged during trail clearance. Trails approach via the Ōtōbashi–Hari'o-no-Taki route and the Ashigō Tunnel ridge route from Kozagawa, and the Sōkoyadani route from Tanabe. The peak appears in the Kansai Hyakumeizan, Kinki Hyakumeizan and Nihon-no-Yama 1000.
