Mt. Ōjō

Mt. Ōjō (599 m) rises in the Iri-Tōno district of Tōno Town in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, and is included in the New Utsukushima 100 Famous Mountains list. Tradition holds that the Heian-period monk Tokuichi opened the mountain as a training site, and the steep ascent on the upper slopes is still spoken of as the path the ascetic monks climbed. About 5 km of loop trail climbs through forest road and ridge to the summit, and the route is occasionally led as a guided event by the Iwaki Tourism and Town Development Bureau.
