Nokeeboshi-yama is a 1,302 m mountain at the meeting point of Itsuki, Yamae, and Sagara Villages in Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture, and is one of the "Kuma Three Peaks" together with Mt. Ichifusa and Mt. Shirogadake. The name refers to a summit pinnacle resembling an eboshi headdress tipped backward. The northeastern slopes hold one of Japan's largest colonies of Japanese pheasant's-eye (fukujusō), which draw hikers from mid-February through late March, and the area also features the standing rock known as Hotoke-ishi and impressive rime ice in deep winter. The mountain is listed in the 100 Famous Mountains of Kyushu, the 100 Mountains of Kumamoto, and the 1000 Mountains of Japan. Note that access has been restricted since the July 2020 heavy-rain disaster damaged trails and forest roads — climbers should check current notices from the three villages.
