Mt. Kinkasan

金華山

Kinkasan (445 m) is the main peak of a sacred 26-km island that floats off the tip of the Oshika Peninsula in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Within Sanriku Fukkō National Park, it is cloaked in old beech and fir forest and home to wild sika deer regarded as divine messengers. The roughly 1,250-year-old Koganeyama Shrine on the island ranks the mountain alongside Mount Osore and the Dewa Sanzan as one of the three great spiritual sites of eastern Tōhoku. Access is by ferry from Ayukawa or Onagawa ports, and the peak appears on the Shima-yama 100 list.
