Mt. Karogatake

Karogatake is a 514 m coastal peak at the base of the Funakoshi Peninsula in Yamada Town, Iwate Prefecture. Crowned by the inner shrine of Karogatake-jinja, it is celebrated as the easternmost peak among the One Hundred Mountains of Tohoku. The trail climbs from sea level at Sukuiso Beach through one of Japan's few coastal beech forests, with views of the Pacific throughout the ascent, and forms part of the Michinoku Coastal Trail. The peak is listed in the Iwate Hyakumeizan, the Iwate-no-Yama 150, the Iwate prefectural climbing guide and the Tohoku Hyakumeizan.
