Mount Rebun is the highest summit of Rebun Island at 490 m, set in Rebun Town, Hokkaido, within Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park. Although low in absolute terms, the route emerges into a creeping-pine zone above the treeline near 350 m, giving an unmistakably alpine feel. The standard Rebun-dake Course leaves the Nairo district on the island's east coast, climbs roughly 4.5 km in about two hours, and tops out on a 360-degree panorama of Mount Rishiri, the whole of Rebun Island, and on clear days the coast of Sakhalin. As the highest point of the "Floating Island of Flowers," home to endemics such as Rebun lady's slipper, the peak is included in Hana no Hyakumeizan, Shin Nihon Hyakumeizan, and Shima-yama 100.
