Mount Mitsumine

Mount Mitsumine is a 605-metre peak on the boundary between Tochigi City and Kanuma City in Tochigi Prefecture, also called Nabeyama for its inverted-cauldron silhouette. Long revered as a sacred site of the Ontake faith, it is known variously as Nagano-Ontakesan, Hoshino-Ontakesan, and Asō-Ontakesan. The classic route circles the mountain from Ontake-jinja at its northern base via the inner shrine, Kengamine, and the Hokushin-gatake peak to the summit, and the mountain is selected for the Tochigi Hyakumeizan. Its western flank has been heavily quarried for limestone.
