Mount Kotonoo

Mount Kotonoo is a 451.4-metre peak straddling the border between Nagayo Town in Nishi-Sonogi District and the Tarami area of Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and the highest summit in Nagayo. Its broad crest forms Kotonoo Park, whose observation deck commands a 360-degree panorama from Ōmura Bay and Nagasaki Airport to the Tara Mountains and the Unzen volcanic complex. During the Edo period a beacon station here signalled the Ōmura domain whenever foreign vessels entered Nagasaki Harbour; signal fires were lit during the 1808 Phaeton Incident. The peak is listed in the Nagasaki prefectural mountain guide (Bunken Tōzan Guide) and in Nagayo's Hundred Landscapes for Future Generations selection.
