Mount Ishimiji

Mount Ishimiji is a 411 m peak in the Higashiyama district of Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture, rising northeast of Nakamura — known as 'the little Kyoto of Tosa.' Halfway up the mountain stands Ishimiji Temple, established under the Ichijo clan as a guardian temple modeled after Enryaku-ji on Mount Hiei in Kyoto, and the trail to the summit is lined with eighty-eight stone Buddha figures recreating the Shikoku pilgrimage. From the top, views extend to the Shimanto River, Sukumo Bay, and the Shikoku Mountains. The peak is included in the Kochi Prefecture Mountain Guide.
