Mount Asahi

Mount Asahi is a 797.3 m peak in the southern Abukuma Mountains on the border between Samegawa Village and Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture, selected for the New Utsukushima Hundred Mountains. Its upper slopes hold thick stands of yamatsutsuji azalea, and on clear days the Pacific Ocean — and in winter even Mount Fuji — comes into view from the top. Two trailheads off National Route 289 access the peak: a steep 30-minute East Route and a gentler one-hour West Route.
