Amame-ga-kura

天女ヶ倉

A 238-meter peak in Anno district, Nishinoomote City, Kagoshima Prefecture — the only mountain on Tanegashima Island whose name is shown on Geospatial Information Authority maps. The summit observation park overlooks sweeping Pacific Ocean views above Anno sweet-potato fields, and serves as a hang- and paraglider launch site. The Amamegakura Shrine near the summit enshrines a great stone said to have been left there by a tengu, and a legend tells of a celestial maiden who hid there. The mountain is listed in Shimayama Hyakusen and Nihon no Sangaku Hyōkō 1003-zan.
