丹後山避難小屋

Two-storey steel-framed unmanned shelter at about 1,800m near the summit of Mt. Tango (1,808m), which straddles the boundary between Minamiuonuma City in Niigata Prefecture and Minakami Town in Gunma Prefecture, inside Echigo-Sanzan-Tadami Quasi-National Park. It sits at the hinge of the ridge routes that run to Mt. Omizukami at the source of the Tone River and onward to Makihatayama, Hiragatake, Arasawadake and the Echigo Sanzan. The only approach is the Jujikyo route: about 50 minutes from Jujikyo to the Tochinokibashi trailhead, then roughly five hours over Jakonomine to the summit, a steady steep climb but regarded as relatively safe. The trailhead is about 40 minutes by bus from Muikamachi Station (Nonaka service, alight at the terminus) or about 20 minutes by car. The Minamiuonuma Tourism Association gives a capacity of 30 with a toilet and use by voluntary contribution; no blankets or other equipment are kept there, so bedding must be carried in, and water sources along the route are scarce.
