This short return climbs from near the trailhead in Kasuga, Tamba, past the Akamon gate and the Ishibumi terrace to the Kuroi Castle ruins, a national historic site on the 356 m summit of Mount Inokuchi. Once the stronghold of the Akai clan that resisted Akechi Mitsuhide's Tamba campaign, it has main, second and third baileys stepped along the summit with rough-stone walls from the Tensho era and an eastern enclosure overlooking Tamba.
