This return follows the most popular trail, about 2.1 km from the Himegami Park trailhead, to 387.6 m Mount Ohira in Daisen, Akita. Locals know it as Mount Himegami, a name that comes from the Tsuru-no-Hagata Castle legend of a besieged lord's daughter torn between love and duty during the Oshu campaign. The summit carries the area's TV relay station, and the slopes hold old shrines, springs and odd giant trees such as the Bakke cedar.
