From the Kogurumi Valley trailhead in Inabe, this traverse takes the quickest route via Katakuri Pass to Mount Oike (1,247 m), the highest peak of the Suzuka range, crosses the limestone tableland to Suzuhokudake, and descends from Kurakake Pass to the eastern trailhead. A karst mountain dotted with the ponds and sinkholes that give it its name, it has a plateau called the Japanese Garden and is counted among Japan's 100 flower mountains.
